Castiel is such a major part of the show now, but Supernatural stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki originally hated the idea of introducing angels more than a decade ago.
Back in season two, the episode ‘Houses of the Holy’ first hinted that angels existed in the world of the CW drama.
But it wasn’t until the season four premiere that Castiel (Misha Collins) came onto the scene and angels became a significant part of the storytelling.
It turns out that Ackles and Padalecki, who play brothers Dean and Sam Winchester, had major reservations about how angels and other Biblical aspects would be written.“[Jensen] and I both were like, ‘Whatever your religious beliefs, whatever ours, we’re not here to proselytise. We’re here to make a serialised television show, but we want it to be universal’,” Padalecki told Entertainment Weekly.
